Motorway Breakdown
🔴 Red X Lane Safety Law
A Red X sign above a motorway lane means the lane is closed. Driving in a Red X lane is a criminal offence in the UK (up to £100 fine + 3 points) and EU equivalents. If your EV stops in a live lane, activate hazard lights and exit via the hard shoulder immediately.
Hard Shoulder Protocol
Park as far left as possible. Wear high-visibility vest before exiting. Stand behind the barrier — never sit in the vehicle while awaiting recovery. Call 999 (UK) or 112 (EU).
US Protocol
Move-Over Law
Move-Over Law — All 50 States
When emergency or recovery vehicles are stopped with lights activated, move over one full lane or slow to a safe speed (typically 20 mph under the limit). Fines range from $150 to $500. Your stalled EV qualifies — activate hazard lights immediately.
Freeway Breakdown
Pull to the right shoulder, activate hazard lights, and call 911. Place reflective triangles 100–300 ft behind the vehicle. Remain inside with seatbelt on until help arrives on high-speed roads.
Global 2026 Protocol
Battery Fire / Thermal Runaway
2026 LFP / NMC Runaway Response
Modern LFP and NMC 2.0 packs can re-ignite up to 72 hours after initial suppression. Fire services must apply continuous water immersion at 2,000–8,000 gallons. Do not leave an EV fire scene unmonitored.
Warning Signs
Hissing, popping, unusual odour, or sudden SOC drop are precursors. Evacuate 100 ft immediately, do not attempt to open the hood, and alert emergency services of EV make/model for HV orange cable location.
Partner listings are independently verified. Response times are estimates. Always call your local emergency number first in a life-safety emergency. Battery thermal events require fire department response before any towing or charging operation. Emergency numbers displayed are based on your detected IP location and may not reflect your physical location.
